Reasons Why Batman Returns Is A Christmas Movie

Recently, James Rolfe of Cinemassacre dissected this topic. Scroll down to view the full video, or read about why the answer to this important question is a resounding yes.

1/ Batman Returns Literally Takes Place During The Christmas Season

Although it may be a movie about the caped crusader, Batman Returns takes place during the Christmas season. The very first scene in the movie begins on Christmas Day. This appropriately sets the mood for the film to be enjoyed during November or December.

2/ The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Is Featured

More than once during the film, the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is featured during pivotal scenes. As one of the most iconic pieces of Americana tradition, this elevates the Christmas elements significantly.

3/ Mistletoe

Several times throughout the film, mistletoe is referenced by the two of the key characters.

4/ Danny Elfman’s Musical Score

The musical score has a very traditionally Batman sound, but with an obvious Christmas influence. The music is dark and gothic, but juxtaposed against instantly recognizable Christmas sounds like bells.
